24th annual AIDS Walk at UNLV

More than 10,000 walkers joined Aid for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN) at the 24th annual AIDS Walk at UNLV on May 4, raising nearly $440,000 to benefit client services for men, women and children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

Penn & Teller served as grand marshals for the 13th year in a row, matching walkers’ donations of $250 or more. Walgreens once again had the largest team with about 500 participants, presenting a check to AFAN for more than $159,000.

Performers across the Strip entertained the crowd, including Josh Strickland singing the National Anthem and acts from Rose.Rabbit.Lie., Million Dollar Quartet, Mo5aic, Panda! and Zodiac Dragon. Body painted by Skin City Body Painting, cast members from Le Reve – The Dream posed for photos with event goers. Local media personalities Chris Saldana and Dayna Roselli introduced the AFAN board of directors, Congresswoman Dina Titus, Senator Ruben J. Kihuen, Assemblyman James Healey and representatives from Senator Harry Reid, Congressman Joe Heck as well as Mayor Carolyn Goodman, who proclaimed May 4 as AIDS Walk Day in the state of Nevada.
